Medical school debt. Does a shiver run down your back when those three words are mentioned? In undergrad, I always felt like I was going to vomit when we discussed the SIX FIGURES of debt we’d have after four years of medical school. Just because there will be a massive hole to crawl out of, doesn’t mean there aren’t ways you can cut down on expenses and save money while in med school. Hear it from those who are in the trenches. Money Saving Tips from Medical School Wives.

This is the second post in my series From Medical School Wives. If you would like to contribute or do a guest post, please reach out to me! You can contact me here or shoot me a message on Instagram or Facebook. I’d love to hear from you and your view as a medical school wife.

The vast majority of med school graduates and their families will graduate with a hefty amount of debt, on top of any undergraduate debt they have. Student loans are used for tuition and living expenses.

For us, the amount of loans we received is more than we have ever made in one year! So, we definitely had to learn how to use the funds and avoid taking out more than necessary. I feel that we have a financial stewardship (even and especially with loans) so it’s important to use responsible planning and manage the resources given to us.

Finances are always a tough topic because everyone’s situation is different. So, it’s important to remember to find what works for you and your family.

Some questions to think about as you read these money saving tips:

  • What is important to you? Why?
  • Where can you save a bit more from the categories below? How?
  • Where are you ok with spending a bit more? Why?

You’ll find that many of these med wives have similar tips, differing views, and the same desire to find joy throughout the medical journey. We will be covering the following categories.
